I have been in Ireland for one week, and my English is already confusing! On Monday I asked for a coffee to take away. The waiter said, "Grand!" I thought: grand? Is the coffee big? Later I learned that "grand" means "fine" or "OK".

On Wednesday a neighbour said, "How's it going?" I started to explain my whole week. She laughed. It is just a way to say hello!

My host mum, Maura, says that people here say "sorry" all the time, even when you step on their foot. The food is good, but I miss spicy things.

The best part? People are very kind. I am tired, but I am happy. Next week: my first class!
