Oskar: Check.

Pavel: It is not check. Your bishop is pinned.

Oskar: Then it is nearly check.

Pavel: Nearly is not a chess term. It is a poetry term.

Oskar: Pavel, I have something to tell you.

Pavel: Not during a game. It is bad manners to talk about life when somebody is losing.

Oskar: You are not losing.

Pavel: I am losing, and you are being kind. Stop it. It is very annoying.

Oskar: My daughter wants me to live with her. In Canada. From October.

Pavel: Ah. Canada. It is a large country. They have a lot of room for old men.

Oskar: I have not said yes.

Pavel: You have bought a suitcase. It is under the bench. I have been looking at it for twenty minutes.

Oskar: Is it so obvious?

Pavel: It is a very new suitcase.

Oskar: I will miss the game.

Pavel: Then we will finish it.

Oskar: It takes months.

Pavel: Months are what we have. Move your queen.

Oskar: And after October?

Pavel: After October, you will play against a Canadian. He will lose, and he will wonder why.
