GREENFIELD COMMUNITY GARDEN: OCTOBER NEWS
Dear neighbours,
What a year! Our gardeners picked 38 kilos of tomatoes this season, a new record. Many thanks to Mrs Ortiz, who shared her secret: coffee grounds around the plants. Please bring your old coffee to the gate if you want to help.
We also have a mystery. For three weeks, someone has been taking carrots from the south bed at night. We put a camera on a post and checked the video. The thief is a big brown dog with a happy tail. His name is Biscuit, and he belongs to Mr Pike. Mr Pike was very embarrassed and has promised to buy a fence. Biscuit has not promised anything.
Next Saturday we have a workday from ten to one. Please bring gloves, a hat and a smile. After the work, we will eat free vegetable soup together. We will plant garlic for next year and clean the compost corner. A small reminder: compost is for vegetables and fruit only, never for plastic or meat.
New members are always welcome, and children can join us with an adult. A tip from Mrs Ortiz: if you want beautiful tomatoes, drink more coffee.
See you in the garden! The Greenfield Team
