From: Ruth Bell Subject: Noise at night

Dear Mr Evans, I am writing about the noise in the building. Every night after eleven, there is loud music from the flat above mine. I have spoken to my neighbour twice, but nothing has changed. I cannot sleep and I have an early job. Could you please talk to the neighbour? I would also like to know what my options are if the problem continues. Kind regards, Ruth Bell

From: Mr Evans Subject: Re: Noise at night

Dear Ruth, Thank you for your email. I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I found the source of the noise. The bad news is that it is my son. He lives in the flat above yours and he is the drummer in a band. I did not know that they practise at night.

I will speak to him today. From now on, they will stop at ten o'clock, and they will use a practice room on weekends. To say sorry, I would like to give you a reduction of fifty euros on this month's rent. I will also bring a pair of earplugs for you, and a second pair for my son. He needs them more than you!

Best wishes, Henry Evans
